What kinds of collage subjects should i try taking first for my degree?

I'm trying to go into chemical engineering (maybe even general chemistry) but I have only a basic idea of what class subjects I'm going to have to take in order to fully understand my field. If anyone can give me advise on what types of classes to take my freshman or sophomore year I would very much appreciate your advice. #chemistry #chemical-engineering

Roger’s Answer

E,

The Department is likely to have a well laid-out sequence of courses you must take for the degree. Beyond that, take courses (and not just STEM ones!) that interest you, or allow you to explore different areas and stretch your mind.

Terry’s Answer

Your first year or two in college as a chemical engineering student is likely to be largely devoted to basic subjects such as calculus, physics, and chemistry (this is true for all engineering majors but the last subject is especially important for chemical engineering majors), combined with an array of courses on the basic principles behind chemical engineering. I would look to your guidance counselor in college (or whatever they are called today) for help is determining which classes you should sign up for.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thank you comment icon Just to further enforce Terry's answer, when you select a major there is a developed curriculum you follow. You won't be asked to pick classes for yourself except for electives and general requirements that have a variety of options. The curriculum between chemical engineering and pure chemistry can be different starting the second year of university, so look at both curricula so you can pick the major that is right for you.
