Hey Theresa - My undergrad was in Biology and Marine Science. I am not a biochemist, but one really cool research study at my university was studying whether the biological adhesives that sea creatures like sea urchins and limpets used to adhere to rocks in the high-energy wave zones could be replicated for industrial use, specifically as one of the glues to keep heat shield tiles on the space shuttle for reentry. The idea was that if those creatures could stay in place, after being pounded for hours by waves, then perhaps their natural adhesive was really something special. I always thought it was so cool that a humble slug of the sea might be the key to keeping astronauts safe! Even today, you can find researchers studying the bio-adhesives of limpets -- here's a study published last year https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rsob.200019
