In addition to the information already supplied about education, it helps to get involved in field work as soon as possible. Volunteering at a zoo, aquarium, or park is a great way to get started. There are also generally good volunteer opportunities through local government or community groups. The more that you can get out and get your hands dirty the better, and finding full time job opportunities in the ecology fields is easier if you have some volunteer or part time positions first. Plus, the volunteering is generally a lot of fun as an added bonus.
