Shelley’s Answer

Hi Erika, There are many different types of fulfilling experiences. Making it into a medical program and learning and being inspired by your classmates and professors is probably the first bonding experience, Graduating and the incredible feeling of accomplishment is fantastic. Then joining a team/department/unit and working together to help diagnose, treat or save a life is very gratifying. When you recognize a subtle change in a Patient's vitals or you trust your gut and make an adjustment in a person's medical treatment and you save them from suffering or becoming critical, that is fulfilling. When you master your profession and staff look towards you for advice or encouragement, that is fulfilling. When you what to add to or change your profession and you are given the opportunity to do it, that too is fulfilling. Because of the high pressure environment you will learn to control your emotions, use critical thinking in stressful situations which gives you confidence in your every day life. You will work with some of the funniest, weirdest, and most supportive people and you spend so much time together that they usually become some of your closest friends. I hope this answers your question.... Good Luck!

Richard’s Answer

I am a physician specializing in radiology.

Radiology is an exciting and dynamic field. For me personally, the procedures are the most exciting. For example, we recently introduced Y-90 radioembolization at our hospital. This provides a new opportunity to treat liver cancers and prolong lives.

Misty’s Answer

Depending on the concentration you go into. For example, you get to experience new life if you go into OBGYN, you get to comfort patients through difficult times if you go into Oncology(cancer dr.), you get to be there to take care of them in the final life stages if you go into Geriatrics, or general medicine helps people feel better in general. I would suggest you find a concentration that is going to suit you and then go from there. Helping people in general if a great and fulfilling experience but how you do it is another thing all together,

Estelle’s Answer

Ericka, thanks for asking this question! I have been practicing gynecology for the past 30 years, and I really enjoy my job. Surgery is my favorite part because I can really improve quality of life for women of all ages. I am very goal oriented, and performing surgeries gets me quick results that are very satisfying. Diagnosing and treating cancer is always rewarding as you might already suspect.
