What other college majors can I apply for if I am interested in biomedical engineering?

I am interested in the biomedical engineering field but I read online that majoring in biomedical engineering is not a good idea. I am wondering what other STEM related college majors could I apply for to become a biomedical engineer. #engineering #college-major #biomedical-engineering #stem

Marjorie A.’s Answer

As a school counselor, this major became very popular in the late 90's. Most of my students were proficient in both math and life sciences and were frustrated they couldn't decide on one. The combination allowed them to fulfill both interests in a distinguished career.

STEM options would be biology, anatomy, biological sciences, chemistry, physics, general engineering, and mechanical engineering, and math.

You might get more insight by researching the job description of a biomedical engineer because sometimes students have limited knowledge of the responsibilities.

Good luck!

Luis "Lou"’s Answer

Majoring in Biomedical Engineering is a fine idea, if that is what you want to do.
It can be a bit limiting at the beginning of your career, since mainly biomedical companies will be interested in hiring you.
Depending on your are of interest there are other majors than would the valuable in biomed, as well as other industries.
If you are interested in the electronic side of biomed., a degree in Electrical engineering is the thing. If you want to write code for medical systems and devices, Computer engineering or Programming. If you want to make the physical devices and/or implants or prosthetics, Mechanical engineering; and if you are interested in the actual biological processes, Chemical engineering or microbiology.
Biomedical engineering just gives you a taste of all, and then you decide what you like. The other engineering fields I mentioned can be used by other industries other than biomedical.
