Choose to become a doctor if you have the courage to make your own way. There is massive nepotism and competition (to the extent of destroying one's reputation). Remember that the profession demands that you remain on the brink. The fight for your own time is often fierce and grueling. Sycophancy and politics is the name of the game and attacks are personal and often below the belt. There is also a tendency to view you as an outlier if you tend to speak your mind. It is also challenging to ignore patient deaths that might happen due to negligence or lack of infrastructure. Creating a niche for yourself is a challenge and more often than not transparency is lacking. Feedback is neither permitted nor welcome. Patient responses are momentary and evanescent. Choose if you must.

Hi Jaden!
Great question! I'm currently a 3rd year medical student, studying to be a doctor. There are a ton of different professions in the medical world so deciding to become a doctor is a big decision to make. For me, I have always enjoyed learning and having a deep understanding of biology and disease processes. As a physician, you typically spend more time on learning how to recognize and treat diseases than other medical professionals. You spend 4 years in medical school and an additional 3-7 years in residency training where you specialize into the kind of doctor you want to be.
Additionally, I wanted a job where I could have the autonomy to make my own decision and call the shots. One of the most important roles a doctor plays is essentially being a team leader and coordinating the necessary care that a patient needs. You need to be able to work well with others and be a good communicator.
Overall, the process it takes to become a physician is long and sometimes difficult. But in the end, it'll be worth it knowing that I can have a large impact on peoples' lives.
