Cynthia’s Answer

The years of education needed varies by state. Most require at least two years of college with a AA or AS degree. Some states require a four year degree. All require specific training as a police officer at a government-run police academy, in the military, or as a sworn officer for some other branch of the federal government. The length of training at a police academy also varies. It can be as short as three months, but is more often about six months.

Lyndsay’s Answer

I'm a little surprised by the answer but it looks like an aspiring police officer needs at least a 2 year degree. That is before going to the police academy which is completely separate. I'm going to list a website below that explains in detail what is needed to become a police officer as well as how long the process takes.

Arturo’s Answer

Dear Monday,
According to all careers in criminal justice and any additional resources all you need to get started is an 2 year 60 credit hours to compete for a position in a police department, however, depending on the district sides or municipalities some times they may require you to have a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or an equivalent to a Bachelor degree in Law Enforcement.

Arturo recommends the following next steps:

Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or a Certificate in Law Enforcement with a Bachelor Degree in related fields.
