As stated by the last person, the requirements are different for each agency but the majority of police departments require their candidates to run 1.5 miles and complete a certain number of sit ups and push ups in 2 minutes. That number is determined by your age and whether you are male or female. Keep in mind though, you will have to continue your physical wellness (stay physically fit) throughout your career because you will have to take this same test once or twice a year throughout your career. So its not a good idea to work out just so you can pass the test, physical fitness will help you do your job well and benefit your mental health as well.

Hello Shamario. This all depends on that particular hiring agency and their employment practices. Some may require it, others will not. I suggest contacting several recruiters or personnel divisions and ask about their standards and requirements. They should gladly share them.
To answer though, no the timed run is not a universal requirement for every place.
