Biju’s Answer

This question especially attracted me as I recently mentored and helped a lawyer of 8 years in his profession transition to technology field. My approach was to first understand what all he liked about his job and what he disliked. Understand his skillsets and strengths. Two 2 months into the mentorship program, he quit his lawyer job. Identified the type of jobs that he will be willing to apply. 3rd month he landed on a job. Some characteristics from this profile that might help
Strengths: Hardworking, committed, excellent communication skills, has used enough technology tools for productivity, Passion to teach
Fields and profession short listed: Product management, Communication Specialists, Teaching soft skills in technology field
He landed on a job as. Product Owner in a legal field. A good mix of his expertise and passion.

Nate’s Answer

Hey there. The answer is: no! I'm not a lawyer by training, however I have friends and coworkers who trained as lawyers but pursued other careers in business development, public relations, human resources etc. In fact, the legal training proved invaluable in strategic thinking and communications, not to mention useful in navigating contracts and agreements. I'd say, go for it!
