I think it would mostly depend on how much you know about real estate. Try finding a college with a bunch of real estate courses

Hassan’s Answer

Most real estate agents are commission based and so their income will depend on how many sales they make. I believe most of selling is based on how well you understand the buyer/seller's needs and match them with the right real estate. So the better you are at building rapport and relationships the more likely you are to do well in real estate.

So does a college degree help you sell real estate? I think that will very much depend on the individual and to a lesser extent the degree. Unless the degree is what helps you develop the interpersonal relationships that are critical to selling.

Abbie’s Answer

Not really. Real-estate agent is commission based so it really depends on how many sales you can do. Sales is all about communication so I would encourage you to take classes for communication, customer behavior type of courses in college. If not it's really years of practice and building your customer network that will help you succeed!

Oliver’s Answer

Airic, like Hassan mentioned, it is highly dependent on the individual. I have listed a few of the skills listed below that make an effective real estate agent:

1. Empathy- a strong understanding of what your customer (the home buyer/ seller) desires.
2. Communication skills- think about managing a sale, and coordinating with the buyer, seller, title company, attorneys, inspectors, appraisers, etc.)
3. Tenacity- As a commissioned based job, YOU are responsible for obtaining and maintaining your customers. Sales can be a discouraging job in the beginning as you are building your reputation and credibility.

If you do not have confidence that you are proficient in the three skills above, consider a degree that develops those skills such as communications, marketing, psychology, etc. If you are not sure about your skills, reach out to a local agent in your neighborhood and ask to shadow them for a day or two on the weekend or over the summer- they will really show you what it's all about!

Oliver recommends the following next steps:

Shadow a Real Estate Agent
Look into degrees that develop skills that would translate to real estate
