Some Departments have training programs on their websites. Here is a 12-week program I found. I think the FBI also has such a program for applicants. Many departments rely on "the cooper's test" which measures strength, flexibility, and endurance. Others have their own test, or consider other factors in addition to the Cooper's test.

Shamario,
Some of the best ways to stay fit include cardio and strength training. As a police officer, you may find yourself in a foot pursuit of a suspect on a frequent basis. Working on your running and then adding a weighted vest or a backpack to account for your gear will help your endurance tremendously.
Keep up with your push ups and sit ups because most departments use that for the fitness test. Also, weight training is a great way to stay fit, you never know when you might need to lift a considerable amount of weight as a police officer.
I’d also suggest taking some sort of self defense class: karate, tae kwon do, jiu jitsu, etc. Not only does it help you stay fit, but it helps sharpen your defensive tactics.
Hope that helps!
