What's a good decision after getting out of the Military?

I was always deciding into being in the U.S Army or Marines something like that, so I was always thinking being in the Military to do service for years or do some years and become a police officer after the Military. #law-enforcement #us-army-military

Great Question Eric. Take it one day at a time. You may find you will want to stay in the Army. I am from a military family. They are all lifers. They all enjoy what that they did and do. So I would say go for it and yes you can become a police officer before or after the military. There are college programs that offer the police academy right out the door. So you may want ot find those colleges and become a peace officer or sheriff, or a highway patrolman many areas of law, armed forces too. Always in high demand because of our large population. Good luck with your journey. Get with an Army or armed forces recruiter you may be surprised to find you can choose the mos or job you want after your exam that you take. I think that some sample exams online for pre testing for some areas not really sure about that you must ask the recruiter.

Thank you comment icon Thank-you for the information, it's a lot to take in. But that is a very good answer!!!!!! River

When I joined the Army, I honestly didn't know whether or not I would be a lifer. With that in mind, I wrote the top things I wanted to achieve in the event I didn't retire from the military. My 1st goal was to get work experience that would benefit me as a soldier and allow me to transfer those skills to a civilian job (I worked in Human Resources). My 2nd goal was to get a college degree, which would benefit me whether I stayed in the military or not. My 3rd goal was to not have any student debt, therefore I used my military tuition assistance and G.I. Bill benefits to fund my degree. Once you end your military career, be sure you have gained all the necessary skills to prepare you for your life after the military. A bonus tip: Try to leave the military debt free, just in case there is a short period between your end of service and your next job.

A good decision for after you get out is having a plan. While your in the service go to college and get yourself a degree. About a year before your contract ends, start looking into potential career opportunities, so you can have a jump start when you are honorably discharged.

Jackie’s Answer

As you progress through your career in the military, you will have experiences that will influence your future. Embrace all these opportunities and you will start to form ideas about what is next. Speak to people who have left already - all my roles post military have been through contacts and networks I made in the military. Good luck

There is no wrong answer. Chase a passion you have. But HAVE A PLAN. So many that leave the military are used to the military providing the structure in their lives. They're kind of lost without it. Apply to jobs before you get out. Maybe use whatever skills you learned in the military secure you a high paying job. I know people that worked in aviation that were able to secure six figure salaries when they got out.
