I am worried about paying for college and graduating with a large debt, how can this be avoided?

I am hesitant about attending college because my family earns to much money to be considered low income and to little money to pay for school. How can I alleviate some of the costs? with out being in high debt after graduation? #financial-planning

Thank you comment icon There are tons of websites that offer scholarships. Some of them you just have to click apply to join without having to write an essay, others you have to have an essay or certain requirements met first. I am currently applying at all the ones I can find. Any little bit can help. Just search college scholarships and tons will pull up. Good Luck! Megan

It is important for you to go to college - those with a college degree typically earn more money than those who do not.

You can go to your local community college for the first 2 years. Then transfer to your state school. State schools are typically less expensive than private schools. Your degree will be from the state college. At college, you can participate in a work/study program so you can earn some money while attending school.

Look for scholarships! Ask the school guidance counselor for help. try http://myscholly.com/scholly. It takes time to find and apply for scholarships, but they are out there.

Having a college degree is an investment in your future, it is something that is a necessity. What I recommend is going to community school and get really good grades make Dean's list, so when you transfer to a school see if you are able to qualify for a scholarship. I recommend when you are in school to have a job and establish a financial plan how much money you need to save to help pay for your tuition. An attainable goal you can achieve is trying to save $750 a month.

Hi Christopher - It may be worth checking out community college options for your first year or two, and then possibly transfering to a 4-year college/university to obtain your Bachelor's degree. The community college route is typically much more affordable to attending a 4-year college right away.
