When you join the FBI does your personal life end, or not secretive anymore?

I'm in the young and want to become an FBI profiler. I have a lot of questions, but for now, this is it. #criminal-justice

Aniyah, yes the FBI will be looking into your personal life.

This is because they want to make sure that you are a trusted individual and you are not compromised in any way. They will be looking into your history in school, college, and maybe even before. They will also want to contact people close to you (friends, teachers, family) to understand more about you. As long as you have followed the law, you have nothing to be afraid of! The FBI is an important organization which saves a lot of lives every year and I wish you success.

GABRIEL’s Answer

Hi- joining the FBI or another major law enforcement organizations will not end your personal life as you know it. There are aspects which may be impacted though. For example, you will likely want to be more guarded with you personal information, your family's information, what you post on social media and the like. Also, your conduct off the job will be important. If you pursue undercover roles, your normal life will be impacted and you will need to be more secretive. I am sure a career in law enforcement will be very rewarding; it is an honorable profession that serves the community. What you do leading up to a job in law enforcement will have an impact on hiring decisions so follow the law, study hard and pursue extracurricular activities. Best of luck.
