As a young man planning to attend college I want to pursue a career that will allow me to give back to my community and others through volunteer service. As an optometrist what is the biggest volunteer service project you completed in helping others?

My goal and ambition in life is to serve and help others. I have a passion to make people smile and give of myself and time. I volunteer in my community by working with kids, elderly and my church. As I attend college and pursue a career I want to know that their is other opportunities in this field besides making money. I want to everyday give good care, serve others with respect and kindness but GIVE to those in need. #optometry

In the medical profession, including optometry, there are many opportunities to give back to the community.

You can work at a VA hospital, go on mission trips to other countries, volunteer or work at community health centers. and more. There are always volunteer opportunities so if you prefer to make more money and then give back on your days off, after hours, or take your vacation time to do a mission trip. Or take a pay cut and work at the VA, which is an incredibly rewarding experience.
