Jasleen’s Answer

The mean salary for a diplomat is $85,906, which means that half of all diplomats earn less than this amount, while half earn more. Generally, base salaries run from $48,936 to $157,092. You may get a bonus of up to $24,511 and profit-sharing up to $6,500.

To go along with Jasleen's answer you can find the FS pay scale for the US Diplomats on the DOS website: https://www.state.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/2020-FS-Pay-Schedules-by-Locality.pdf. This is the base pay for each grade and there are a few other things that go into the calculation like danger pay, locality pay, etc. The other thing to consider with the FS is that it is an up or out system similar to the military, so you are competing with those in your pay grade for promotion. It gets harder as you go higher in the ranks.
