Hagen’s Answer

Hello Gabriel,

Yes of course we do. I found that I need course correction every two years. With the rapid pace of change in technology you may find that you need to reinvent yourself that often ready or not.

I make a point of investing in what I perceive to be the next wave a couple of years in advance of that trend maturing. For example, I started learning about analytics and statistics a couple of years ago before Big Data became mainstream. That investment paid dividends when those skill were in demand and it turned out you couldn't learn them in a month or two.

I am just embarking on the next hot trend "Design Thinking" which I noticed all the System Integrating into their services. That means when my company realizes Design Thinking is salient to its markets I'll be ready. It's also interesting staying engaged is key to avoiding the job fatigue about which you're concerned.

Technology is a terrific field and there are dozens of ways to plug in so the field supports staying excited and engaged. However, you have to take ownership for staying abreast of the new trends and keeping your skills up to date.

Hope that helps.

Best,

Hagen

Grace’s Answer

It is a difficult question to answer. "You dont know what you dont know" But for most people, I would say yes. That's why people tend to switch roles every few years, to look for new opportunities/ challenges based on their interest and passion. So my advice to you is, dont think too much, just do it!
