What can I expect in the film industry?

I'm super interested in going to college for film, an getting a job in the film industry. Not as actress, but as a #producer, #director, #screenwriter, etc. I'm aware that this career path is notoriously hard to break into, and I'm not sure if it will be worth pursuing. What sort of challenges can I expect, and what are some positive things? #film

I can give you a resource to look into if you'd like to learn more about your desired area. I'm going through Second City's Improv and Acting Programs and have perused other programs there, you might like the Writing Program they offer. There's a mix of Comedy TV Pilot Writing Program, Screenwriters Lab, Sitcom Writers Room, Writing for Late Night TV and Intro to Writing for TV and Film. They also have programs for Directing & Producing and for TV Film and Digital Writing and Production. I would suggest checking those out if you might have interest.

Here's a few things to expect: the competition for these jobs will be high and the pay will start low. Because of the competition, networking is crucial. You may need to volunteer or dedicate your time (and in some cases money) working on your own projects. School can be helpful in networking and building up a body of work and gain production skills, but it by no means guarantees a job in the industry. Places in the country that you can find jobs in the industry will be very limited. If you are interested in production, local television may be an option. Many corporations not-related to entertainment media also have production needs.

There is no set path to working in the industry so you need to be someone who is willing to forge one on their own.
