Jay - when you want to own a high tier worldwide business, I would recommend starting to gain more knowledge and build more skills on how to work ON A BUSINESS as opposed to working IN A BUSINESS. I think the main thing that you will need to have is an excellent network of people that you can rely on as you build upwards to the high tier and outwards to the worldwide market. You can start this immediately at school, in your community, at work, basically anywhere. It's really about knowing what your goal is: High Tier Worldwide Firm Owner and then developing a plan of how to get there.

There are some basic guidelines to remember - like if you want a good friend you have to be a good friend first. So, if you want to have good reliable members in your network, you have be a good reliable member of a network first.

These are skills that you can learn and develop.

Keep asking questions in Career Village or other places and the answers will come.

Hopefully you will find this information valuable as you start your High Tier Worldwide Firm.

Best of Luck

Jay (Brett)’s Answer

Hey Jay! Even the largest organizations in the world were once small. It's great you want to start a high-tier worldwide organization, this is first going to look like a startup. As you begin to succeed you will be able to grow your company into a worldwide organization.

There are two different kinds of information you will need to start your own business.
1) You will need to understand what kind of business you want to operate.
2) You will need to learn how to actually structure your business.

First, there are more ideas than you can believe when it comes to starting a business. The hard part will be deciding what you want to start. If you have an idea of what you want to do, a great way of learning more about the industry the company will operate in is to ask professionals who already work in that industry. CareerVillage.org is a great place to ask those types of clarifying and understanding questions.

Second, once you have an idea as to the business you want to create, start by searching the internet for how to set up your business with your state. Your state's business development department should have information on how to set up your business, how to get a tax number, and what forms you need to fill out for these steps. Since these differ from state to state and country to country, searching for your state specifically will be the best next step.

Good luck on your future business. I hope you thrive.

That's great that you want to start your own business!

Based on the type of business you want to start, there are many different resources. Here in the U.S., one place to start might be the Small Business Administration website: www.sba.gov - where they outline some steps to starting your own business.

Khan Academy is another resource to check out, as they can help you with some of the people skills required to be successful and effective in running your business. You will want to learn things like being resilient, being a good leader and manager, and so on.

Also, learning from others who have started their own business is a great way to prepare yourself to do it. Seek out small business owners, introduce yourself, and ask what advice they have. There are online forums and groups that may help you make connections to small business owners.
