Ana’s Answer

I absolutely love being in technology. I am not an engineer, but a Business major with a Masters in Technology, and have been in tech my whole career. I think the biggest advantage is that it forces you to always stay on top of technology because you are always learning something new. It keeps me competitive and marketable, which I believe is a huge advantage. I really enjoy the constant learning aspect of it, so if you think you will like that, Tech is the field to be in. As far as a con, I can't really think of any myself, but like the point raised above re: the fact males have most positions in tech. Choose a company that makes an effort to employ women and treat them right, and you will be in great shape.

Victoria’s Answer

Pros: there are more and more opportunities in stem related fields and as technology advances this will only grow. so for that reason it is a good career choice

: The field is ever changing and you will always be learning so a good choice for those who like to be challenged and like to be at the forefront of things

Cons: If you are a woman you will be in the minority. Most STEM positions are filled by men. This could be a pro or a con depending on how you feel about that.
: STEM fields don't always attract people with the best people skills, they will be more numbers, math, science focused so communication can be challenging.

Esther’s Answer

Great question Esmeralda! =) There are lots of pros to being in a STEM Career: lots of job openings, higher pay, a fun and ever-changing environment (you never get bored) and you might even be able to wear jeans to work! I definitely recommend it! Only con could be the constant change if you happen to be a person that likes things to stay the same. If not - it's an amazing career!

Esther recommends the following next steps:

Check with your school about getting an internship with a STEM company. It would be a great way to check out the company and learn more about STEM careers first hand!
