How hard is it to find a job as a mechanical engineer?

I am planning on studying this field of engineering. I was wondering if other fields might be easier to get a job in. #engineering #jobs #mechanical-engineering

Brad has a good response. In addition it may depend on the type and size of company and location, so you may have to be willing to move to a new city or region. Mechanical engineers are used in many fields so much more likely to find a job easier than others.

Brad’s Answer

I can only speak to my experience but here is what I have found: I have never had any difficulty what so ever in finding a job within mechanical engineering. Basically, I have never been unemployed since the day I graduated 14 years ago. With that being said, there have been some jobs that I enjoyed more than others and it can sometimes be difficult to find the "perfect" job where you 1) feel like you fit in, 2) are growing as an engineer, and 3) are really making a difference in the larger world. There are opportunities within this field where all three to come together but again, that is what I view as a "perfect" job. Every job I have had is rewarding in some way or another.
