Should you have more than one plan if the first one doesn't go your way?
I'm a 10th grader currently going to 11th grade and I want to find out ways to gradually get used to the world outside of childhood. I want to take up a career in certain things but there are too many options to choose. #job

Hi Jayvyn,
I believe it is always good to have more than one plan because you never know if the plan will succeed or failed. That's why, while in 12th grade, you try to apply to multiple universities/colleges in case the one you are targeting rejects your application.
Now, having too many options is also very confusing and could leave you lost instead of you taking directions. I strongly encourage two options, more if the additional ones are related to the two first. More than that, especially if they are very different will be discouraging or disorienting to you.
For your career path, to narrow your choices, think about this:
- find something you are ready to spend a lot of time on.
- find something that you are somewhat good at (at least).
- find something that you think or know has a future

Hello Jayvyn,
You are in 10th grade right now, so you have sometime to think about your career path. You should definitely have alternate plan if your primary plan does not work out. My suggestion would be to think through what you like or passionate about, what you will really enjoy working in future.
Once you have couple of options for your career, start gathering more information about what colleges relevant courses are offered, what is the scope in future, expense of your education, location, etc. This information will help you plan for your future.

Jayvyn,
You have so much time ahead of you! Sometimes you have to get to Point B to even see Point C where your longterm career lies. You don't have to have Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C ready in wait though. If you're not sure what path to take, save some money and focus on getting your gen eds done and out of the way leading to an associates degree first. Community colleges are great for that! And above all, enjoy the journey.
