How hard is it to maintain a family life as a pilot
I'm aware that pilots not only have a dangerous job, but a demanding one. How hard is it to maintain a relationship with a spouse, children, and extended family while spending hundreds of hours in the air #aviation #aerospace #family #aircraft #pilots #flight

Different pilot jobs allow you different amounts of time at home.
An airline pilot maybe gone 4-5 days in a row, but he will also be home several days in a row.
While a corporate pilot may be on call. So he can be home and not work for a few weeks, then be gone all the time.
A corporate pilots schedule fluctuates much more, while an airline or cargo pilot has a much more predictable schedule.
Being a pilot, I find when I get to spend time at home, I really get to spend time at home. I do not have to bring work home with me, or go to meetings, or take early calls, etc. I get to dedicate myself 100% when I am at home.
So the trade off is while I may not be home every night, the quality of time at home is higher.
And also, a lot of my friends work traditional 9-5 jobs while spending less time and home than I do.
If you have the support of your family, and you chose to dedicate yourself when you are home, you can live a very balanced life while pursuing aviation as a career.

A career as an airline pilot is tough on a personal life. Being away 3-4 days at a time, on weekends, holidays, and during important events puts strain on relationships. It help if you live where you are based out of so you don't have to commute. Just like other jobs that require travelling or long hours, it takes sacrifice and understanding expectations.
