Nursing is way different than a doctor. For nursing you will not need to do an internship at the hospital. I assure you you will find a job. This is a high demand field. Go for your pre ed classes then apply for the R.N. program then you can always do a bridge program to Masters of R.N. special in Oncology. I am sure they need great people to help with cancer patients, always. You will do well. If you decide to do an internship at a hospital this depends on the hospital staff, and most the time yes they do hire you in on either per diem. traveling, or there at the hospital, The best to you have a great career.

You will definitely spend time as an intern. While you do it will be important to put on your best performance and especially show them you are willing to do things other than just your specific job description i.e. help make someone else's bed or clean up for them etc. to show you are a team player etc. To answer your specific question though. An internship is always over when it is over. It is not something they 'keep you on' as. However, if they have openings and you have done well it is very likely they will tell you about those opening and help you apply and expedite your hiring in. We always try to fill open positions with wonderful interns as soon as they graduate whenever possible!
