What is surgery like?
I think I want to be a surgeon and I wanted to know what performing surgery is like. Is it fun? Hard? As rewarding as it seems? #surgery #surgeon #general-surgery #doctors #cardiac-surgeon #plastic-surgeon #spine-surgery #oral-surgery

Former oral and maxillofacial/plastic surgery assistant here. Surgery can be so fun! It’s a rush and very rewarding. It’s very important to remember that your patient is trusting you and to honor that trust. It’s certainly a bonding experience. If you have a strong stomach, steady hand and laser focus, it can be, at the least, a very interesting adventure and educational experience. It makes it that much more rewarding if you’re blessed with a very patient doctor to work with- someone who cares about educating you and giving you the space and time to learn.

Surgery is a demanding but fun job. It needs a lot of focus, both for the training, and after, when performing it. But there's immediate gratification, where you can save someone's life or improve their quality of life. I love both the technical aspect of surgery, as well as the judgement required, of what surgery to do, and when, and sometimes when doing nothing is the right thing.
There are frustrations with bureaucracy, but as a plastic surgeon, there's less of that to deal with. surgery plastic-surgery plastic-surgeon
