An Electrical engineer have to design and take care of the engine controller and related electronics, controllers for safety systems like air-bags and anti-lock brakes, the battery, starter and motor, radio and infotainment, navigation systems, electric locks, electric windows, electric windshield wipers, electronic actuators, door sensors, indicators.

Thank you comment icon You will likely want to get a computer/electrical engineering degree from a top University. For automotive, you want to focus on embedded systems. There are probably on the order of 100 different circuit boards in a car, and those need to be designed by an electrical engineer. For a company as desirable as Tesla, not only do you have to be exceptionally bright, you have to have a work ethic to match. To set yourself apart, I would recommend getting involved in any University robotics or vehicle teams that you can. Working for a company like Tesla can require that you be willing to work overtime at the detriment of work/life balance. Read Glassdoor reviews before seriously considering any workplace. Nikhil Shah

Priyanka’s Answer

Cars have multiple electronic control circuitry and boards used within car or charging technologies. An electrical engineer would work on design, circuit analysis, testing & validation, optimization and efficiency analysis of these circuits to name few. I would highly recommend you to look at job description of electrical engineering positions at auto motive companies, this will also provide you with good insight on skills and knowledge required for these roles.
