How will Engineers overcome the struggles with Autonomous vehichles?

I know that the real issue with autonomous cars and such is making the snap decisions, but what are engineers doing to overcome this? I had the idea of using an AI to be able to drive the car rather than a simple program. Is this a reality? #engineering #cars #autonomous-cars #self-driving-cars

It seems we are not (yet?) capable of programming a really good AI. So for now, combining our AI/smart algorithms with machine learning seems to be the most effective way. This method was used in 2016 to finally make a computer beat a "go" professional which was much harder than beating the reigning chess champion. This method is also used in the process of making cars more autonomous. Of course it takes tons of data to analyze and learn from, but car manufacturers like Volvo have been recording (internal car system states, radar feed, camera feed, camera feed on driver, driver interaction ...) in special cars for years to allow this

Michael’s Answer

The key for autonomous cars will be for each car to communicate directly with all other cars nearby. How? By using super fast wireless technology, like 5G and others types of wireless technology in development. AI will enable this communication to take place, and more importantly, for each car to then understand the appropriate courses of action to avoid a collision.
