Kerri’s Answer

A very good friend of mine traveled all over the world for her employer. It was a Financial Service Company (a Bank) that was based in Boston and had locations across the globe. She primarily worked in the U.S. and traveled for business, and then she had an opportunity to relocate to China for two years.

So I would recommend finding large corporations that may be US Based and have locations throughout the world, or possibly a foreign owned company with a US presence and start there.

Also look for employers that offer leadership development programs, which often time cycle an employee through different business units and locations in their company over the course of 2-4 years to expose them in all aspects of operations before deciding where they would like to land. Good luck!

Dennis’s Answer

I started traveling internationally doing one trip per year while doing social work. I then started a photography business doing magazine assignments and was able to increase my foreign trips per year shooting stock photos which I marketed to magazines and book publishers. When I had enough experience as a travel photographer I started my own photo tours company. Eventually I was able to travel abroad four to six times per year, including doing cruises which I photograph for and occasionally blog about for a cruise website. If you are creative in your thinking, you may be able to invent your own international job.

Sounds like you are interested in experiencing new cultures and meeting new people- awesome! What excites you most about working in different countries or a job that involves a lot of international travel? For example, do you want a job where you get to fully immerse yourself in a new culture and live in a different country or would you prefer to travel for short periods of time, but be based in a domestic job? Do you see yourself working for a company or are you interested in being an entrepreneur or a consultant/freelancer? Depending on your answers to these questions, I think you'll have an easier time deciding what type of career appeals to you most.
