What steps should I take to become a nurse?

I am 14 years old and going to become a 10th grader in September. I have been interested in nursing recently for my future career and want to experience it as well as other areas in the medical field to see if I really am interested in it. #nursing #healthcare #medicine

Hi Christine,
Nursing is a great career, there are multiple career paths that you can take as a nurse: Hopital worker and all of the areas that you can specialize in, Home Health, Research, Nurse Practioner, Clinic work, Occupational Health and Public Health just to name a few.
Important: excel in your sciences: Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistries. These are the building blocks in your career as a nurse or other allied health professional. But nursing also encompasses the person as a whole. Mental Emotional, Physical, Social aspects.
The other hing you can investigate is college classes that you might be able to take while you are in High School. As the restrictions related to Covid 19 seem to relaxing right now, maybe you can volunteer in a hospital to see if this even an environment that you want to persue.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Good Luck Christine

Hello Christine, When I was in high school I volunteered at a couple hospitals to get a feel what it may be like working in that sort of atmosphere. Also, if your school offers any health related classes I would suggest you take them. Nursing can be very physically and mentally demanding but also very rewarding if you are working in an area you are passionate about. The best thing about nursing is if you don't like one thing you can try another area. For example, I thought I would love working in a hospital when I became a nurse but found it wasn't for me. Now I work with healthcare insurance with a team of Care Coordinators who I oversee. Very much love my job!! Best of luck in your journey...
