What skills do I need to become a real estate agent?
I have always watched real estate agents give tours of new homes which ended up sparking my interest in becoming one. But, I never exactly figured out what kind of skills I would need for that career. #real-estate

Hi Adriana, I am a real estate investor for the last 16 years, business owner for 39 years. Being a realtor is more than just selling homes! You have to have a passion to help people. It is their biggest purchase for the most part. You can’t do it just for the money. Having an ability to retain a lot of information at once is an important skill. You will need to multitask with many different clients, lenders, etc. at once. I would take the class for the pre-test to see if it’s something you think you would enjoy. If you like working with people, that would really help. The best realtors are the ones that really care about their clients, not just about the paycheck. Good luck!

Hello Adriana,
Being a real estate agent means you are in a sales career.
To be successful in sales people have to like and trust you so you want to be yourself and be honest.
In addition, to be able to explain the home buying or selling process is important and knowing your inventory to match what your buyers are looking for will insure your success.
If you want to list the homes and work with your seller you will want to work on your presentation skills and know your facts about the homes that have sold nearby.
Hope this helps!

I'm not a real estate agent - I have a full-time job but I am also interested in being a real estate agent! I would recommend a) talking to real estate agents and potentially even shadowing to see if you're interested in it and b) if you want to start learning, check out the licensing books from the library or purchase them (~$100 or less if you find them online) and you can start studying for the real estate license exam.

Hi- while I am not a real estate agent, I have worked with many and a few family members are in the profession. I believe being a good listener is a great place to start. Good agents I have worked with have taken the time to ask lots of initial questions and really understand what was important to me during a purchase or sale. Organizational skills are also important as you will be juggling many clients and tasks at one time. I also think energetic and enthusiastic people make good agents. You will also need a good work ethic and not mind working nights and or weekends. Best of luck!
