Is it possible to teach music at a collegiate level and also conduct a symphony-orchestra?

Conducting is an intense, beautiful study, and I would love to teach at a college level as well as conduct a symphony. #music-industry #music-teaching #conducting

Hi Nathaniel,

Yes! It is absolutely possible to work in higher education as a Professor, as well as conducting an orchestra. As a music professor, you will need significant experience as a performer, as well as your Bachelor and Master degrees in music, performance or education/composition, etc. To teach at the master's level, you will eventually need to obtain your PHD or DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts).

I would suggest reaching out to local youth orchestras to gain experience as a conductor during your studies.

Best of luck!
Jackie
