What is it like being a civil engineer?

I want to be an engineer but I do not know the specifics behind the different engineers. What does a civil engineer do exactly? Do they build stuff or just design? #engineering #civil-engineering

Eva’s Answer

Hi Jed! Great question. There are different types of engineers that all have different roles and tasks. In my experience, Civil engineers do much of the designing. They draw out sketches, build mini prototypes, and such to come up with the best ways to design bridges, houses and other structures. Maybe you will be interested in mechanical engineering as well. It is similar, mechanical engineers focus more on mechanical products such as cars, airplanes, engines, and how the parts work together. I hope this helps!

Eva recommends the following next steps:

Brainstorm some of the thing you like to do. Do you like to skecth? Do you love cars? Or would you rather be on your computer typing away?
Go ahead and search the different types of engineers on the web and explore all of the possibilities.

Chaitra’s Answer

Civil Engineering is all about designing and implementing it. How to design a structure and build it taking into account the needs of the Client is mainly what Civil Engineers do. There are a lot of calculations involved in the designing.
