Dewi’s Answer

If you want to study the earth and its history the best choice is study geology. One of the geology class is paleontology where you learn about fossils to determine the age and the depositional environment of the sedimentary rocks. Paleontology is not the only tool to use to discover the history of the earth, other classes are structural geology, sedimentology and stratigraphy, mineralogy, petrography, volcanology, tectonic. All of those classes are included in the geology major. So geology is more broader than paleontology.

Nancy’s Answer

If your major is paleontology, you may choose to minor in biology if your focus is on ancient living things rather than on the earth's physical characteristics. It depends upon your interest areas and what sort of work you want to do later. For example, do you want to work doing geological surveys while being aware of fossils, or on fossil dig sites studying prehistoric animals or ancient plants? Talk to your faculty advisor in your major for more direction.
