Hello Aphile! In order to become a radio show host, you will most likely need a Bachelor's Degree in radio broadcasting, communications, or a similar field. It's also beneficial to find an internship at a radio station prior to/while completing your degree. An internship or part-time job at a radio station would be excellent for your resume and help you get a job as a radio show host after college. Depending on what kind of radio programs you'd like to host (whether informational programming, news programming, or music programming) depends on what kind of degree you should get. A good rule of thumb is to pursue a degree in the subject matter (for music programs, get a degree in music studies or music engineering, for example; for informational programming on economics, get a degree in business or economics). This will show employers that you can actually talk about the content of the program (that's the whole point!)
Second, pursue internships at radio stations and podcasts; if you can voice a few stories, great! If not, learn all you can from journalists and other presenters, and make sure you're well-versed in creating audio stories, using the audio recording equipment and editing software.
Third, practice on your own. If you haven't had the opportunity to voice or present on the radio, join the radio club at your school or university or create your own short-form podcast audio stories to include in your online portfolio.
