Thank you comment icon Hi QWilliams. I went to a business school (as did many others on CareerVillage) and I would be more than happy to share some advice. What type of advice are you looking for? If you clarify your question, it would help us to give you better answers. I'll give it my best shot, but without knowing the type of advice you're looking for, it's a little difficult for me! It is great that you are in a business class right now in High School. I did not have access to a business class in High School.

If you're asking for advice on how to get into a business school, my advice would be to focus on (1) getting good grades and test scores and (2) creating opportunities for yourself to gain great leadership experience doing challenging things through your extracurricular and summer activities. Remember that you are NOT competing against your peers in your school - you are competing against all students your age in America, and internationally. Keep your focus high and rise to the challenge!

If you're asking what you can do in your summer before business school, then my advice would be to start reading about current business trends, so that you are ready to discuss these topics in class. The best places to learn about these are by reading the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal on a daily basis, or by reading as many business books as you can get your hands on. If you don't want to buy books or newspaper subscriptions, then check out the free copies of these things in your local library. You can keep an eye on the best selling business books online (for example: Amazon's list of business books).

Q,

I am currently in my last semester of senior year at the University of Cincinnati. I have some good advice for anyone wanting to become business students.

1. Make a personal connection with professors and peers.
2. Stay in touch with those connections.
3. Stay after class, and ask professors specific questions pertaining to your unique situation.
4. You get out what you put in, try to maximize the amount of retained information from your classes.
5. If you are given exploratory assignments or essays, don't just go through the motions, try to apply it to the real world things that you are experiencing.
6. Use your assignments to kill two birds with one stone. For example, I was given the assignment to build a website over the course of the semester. I used that as an opportunity to build a platform to sell my art. I completed two objectives in half the time by combining an assignment with something useful.
7. Look for new opportunities, and keep your doorways open!

Thank you for your question!

Preparing for business school, you probably have some expectations about how all your hours of effort will pay off, and you may be surprised when they go unfulfilled.
Here are four things that you should know before entering a business school.

1) Grades generally don’t mean much :- Along with scoring good marks if you get involved with some activity outside of the classroom, you will reap the full benefit of the MBA experience. Helps in developing your skills.

2) Failure is OK :- MBA program is like a learning laboratory, and an ideal time to take risks so don't be afraid to flop. Failure is one of the best learning tool.

3) Show confidence :- There will be classes and activities that come easy for you Find opportunities to show your strength. Participate in class and don't be afraid to ask questions.

4) Make the most of your time :- Attending a business school is also the perfect opportunity to make new friends and enjoy experiences which you will always cherish. Remember to take your time, avoid stress and have a great time exploring new things.

McCauley’s Answer

It's important to consider whether you will be automatically admitted into the business school upon acceptance to the university, or whether you will have to go through a separate application process later in your education. My business school didn't let students apply until their second year, and so some people went to the school just for the business school and didn't get in which is why I recommend considering this before committing to a school.

Everyone says that it is ok to fail, but its not unless you learn and capitalize off failure

Start studying on economics early, understanding the base level of how the general economy and markets work will pay dividends.

Talk to as many people as possible and get their social media, you may never see them again or you may not like them but you never know who you will hit it big in college.

Even when exams may seem hard its better to not cheat, you are only hurting yourself and basically losing money.

Do the readings

Do the readings

Try and acquire an internship as early as you can. The summer before you go to college you should be working a part time internship regardless of what field you want to be in.

Figure out what your not good and perfect that.
