Depending on the school and requirement, average is 6 years.. Then allot 1 year to study and wait for the results of Vet licensure.

Nastasha’s Answer

It varies a bit, but typically you will go to undergraduate college for 4 years first and then complete another 4 years in veterinary school. After veterinary school, some people will complete internships or a residency which can add more time as well.

For myself (as an example), after high school I completed 4 years of college (completed both an Associate's and Bachelor's degree in that time), then 4 years of vet school, 4 years of various internships, and 3 years of residency. That was my path to become a board-certified small animal surgeon.

Talk to your school's career counselor.
