Deborah’s Answer

I agree with the above recommendations also. I strongly encourage job shadowing . This will give you an idea of what a nursing career entails. Many schools offer to help in coordinating. Getting a job or even volunteering in healthcare is another great idea. Give yourself the opportunities to work directly with patients. If you feel the passion to care and serve the needs of those in need this will confirm you are on the right path.

Good Luck!

Camille’s Answer

Hi Dasia! The first step into becoming a nurse is to take all your pre-requisite classes and maintain a good overall and science GPA. Based upon the nursing school you are planning to apply to GPA requirements may vary. I would also suggest becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), and working as one at a hospital before applying. Having CNA experience gives you better insight into the nursing profession, and can help augment your application by showing you have current experience in the healthcare setting. It can also help establish connections and help secure a nursing job post-graduation!

Sandra’s Answer

Hello Dasia,
The first step to prepare you as an RN would be to select a nursing school that is suitable for you and then seek a school counselor or advisor who will guide you to which prerequisite courses you need to prepare you for entrance into the nursing program; once a school accepts you into a nursing program, this school will require personal information such as criminal background, immigration status, references, and/or transcripts; I wish you the best in your nursing journey.

Sabrina’s Answer

Start by volunteering at a hospital to see if you like the atmosphere and think it would be something you would enjoy. Also, try job shadowing. Nursing is either something you love or may completely regret so it's a good idea to see what a day in a life of a nurse is like. The good thing with nursing, there is so many different kinds of jobs you can do.

You’ll need to have a high school diploma or GED in order to apply for a nursing program. prerequisite classes such as Anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, and statistic are often required with a GPA of 3.0. Nursing school is highly competitive and require further test to gain admission such as the TEAS or PAX test and you will need a high score for both exams. your prerequisite classes have to be less than 5 years old to be accepted.
