Hi Serena! The first step into becoming a nurse is to take all your pre-requisite classes and maintain a good overall and science GPA. Based upon the nursing school you are planning to apply to GPA requirements may vary. I would also suggest becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), and working as one at a hospital before applying. Having CNA experience gives you better insight into the nursing profession, and can help augment your application by showing you have current experience in the healthcare setting. It can also help establish connections and help secure a nursing job post-graduation!

There are many levels of nursing degrees. Some schools offer a limited practice nurse degree or LPN. There is a two year registered nurse degree or RN (with approximately two years of prerequisites), a four year degree for a bachelor of science in nursing, a masters degree and a doctorate degree.
The LPN and RN degrees can be completed at a community college with many prerequisite classes available while in high school.
Talk with your schools guidance counselor and search college requirements for the nursing degree you are interested in.
Once prerequisites are completed, I recommend applying to several colleges as nursing school is competitive with limited space.
