Is it possible to have a degree in one of the sciences (like biology, chemistry, or microbio) and get into business? What are the pros and cons of having a science degree in the business world?

I want to pursue a degree in science and with this, I have heard that there are people who go into business with science degrees. Do they have an advantage over others? What are the pros and cons?

Yes, you can absolutely have a career in business with a science background. Many business people start their careers as scientists or engineers, and move up to more management oriented positions in their companies. In fact, many companies require their managers to have a technical background.

A scientific education will teach you many skills that are advantageous in business, such as critical thinking, the scientific method, reading, writing, and persuasion. Science programs can develop these fundamental skills even more effectively than a business program, especially if you take some good liberal arts classes on the side. An overlooked advantage of liberal arts classes is the focus on reading, writing, and speaking. Learning to write and speak effectively is a very valuable skill.
