Deb’s Answer

The old joke goes that architects learn less and less about more and more until the they know nothing about everything and engineers know more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing.

The truth in this is that architects are responsible for the big picture. How all the stuff and purposes and constraints are managed and assembled to make a coherent and useful building (bonus points if it's also beautiful). Engineers are the ones responsible for going over the details to make sure the building stands up, the heating and cooling work, the water flows, the toilets don't back up, and so on and so forth.

Both are essential for successful buildings so neither is "better" in any general sense. They are very different disciplines, typically requiring quite different personality types so one or the other will usually be a better career choice depending on the person.

It's not really clear what you are asking. I hope this helps.

Rahul’s Answer

Adrian - Talent is one thing and happiness is another. What makes you happy? What are you passionate about? You could be talented in all those things that you mention above, but if you're not happy - you may not like it.

Question to self - What makes me happy? Is there a career available in that field? If yes, is that practical enough that it will feed me and my family? If not, then I am sure that won't make you happy.

Try this process. It will help you!

Luis "Lou"’s Answer

Two good answers above.
Let me use this analogy: you have two talented photographers passionate about taking great pictures. One worries about the composition, the contrast of light and dark, or the contrast of color. Is preoccupied with the message his image will convey. The other photographer cares more about rhe exposure, the focus, the depth of field, the exact levels of light. Cares more about having the right lens for the type of pictures being taken.
Both want to take awesome pictures, and both have to worry about all those things to do so, but their focus is the difference.
The first photographer I describe would be more like your typical Architect, whereas the second one is more like your typical Civil Engineer.
Ultimately, yiu should pick the one which you believe will make you happier.
