I agree with Steven’s advise and would also make some suggestions based on my personal experience. I got a job doing patient registration at a walk-in clinic right out of high school. It was a great experience for several reasons: I became familiar with medical terms, got to work with a variety of medical professionals including healthcare administration, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians and Xray techs. The corporation offered tuition reimbursement which was great. I ended up choosing Community Health as my major and landed an internship with the corporation at graduation. Best of luck, Melissa

Hello Aliya: It is very smart to think about your future now, so you have time to see if you like certain fields. For medicine/healthcare, I recommend either having some volunteer time or shadowing time at a hospital/clinic, or better yet, get your CNA certificate and work part time as a Nursing Assistant.

Hi Aliya! It's great to hear that you want to get a head start in preparing for medical school. As a high schooler, I would recommend that you take science courses, especially AP science courses, such as biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology. These courses will help prepare you for the basic science courses you'll be taking in college. In fact, if you score well on the AP exams, your college or university may give you college credit and/or allow you to skip the first level of these courses, allowing you to move to more advanced courses earlier on. I would also highly suggest getting involved in the medical field to make sure that a career in medicine is really what you want to pursue. This can mean volunteering at a hospital or clinic, shadowing doctors, scribing, working as an EMT, and/or doing research.

For a career growth in Medical profession (as a Doctor), there are many avenues you need to be aware about
1.1 Think about all specializations you see in hospitals - Gynaecology
1.2 Neuropathy, Orthopedic, ENT, Respiratory, Cosmetology etc...
2. Alternate medicine like Homeopathy, Ayurveda etc.
The Other fields related highly to the Medical side are...
1. Nursing (as Steven suggested)
1.1 This includes both Male Nursing and Female Nursing
1.2 Lab assistants
2. Physiotherapist
3. Pharmacist, Radiologist, Dentist, Optometrist and so on...
Even think about being a Veterinarian! Finally if you are not interested to actually operate upon living beings, look into Biotechnology which is a very diverse field ranging from Plant Biotechnology to Human and Industrial Biotechnology.
