The biggest challenge is to understand who you are and to forge a path to reach your highest potential in life...it is related to work, personal life, etc.

At one point I myself tried to pursue the medical field due to pressures from family who were in the medical field and expected me to follow in their footsteps. The biggest challenge is time and commitment. I knew my heart was not in it and therefore I was not motivated. Needless to say, I did not complete the course and I change my major. But to piggyback on Michael's answer, you have to know and recognized your own abilities, talent and passion. If you have the passion to pursue the medical field as you think you will find joy and fulfillment in it, then go for it. However, do you research. Talk to as many people as you can who are in the field of your interest and get their feedback. The more you know, the better you can make a sound decision if the medical field is right for you.
