Hi,

Your summary on LinkedIn (the "about" section) should:

1) Be 2-3 paragraphs
2) Include your area/s of study
3) Start with the answer to the question "Why?" (i.e. why you are currently pursuing what you are currently pursuing!)

Hope this helps!!

Daniela’s Answer

Hi Gabriela,

The summary section requires brevity and critical thinking. You must explain what you’re about and the impact you make on others.

  • Step 1: Who are you, really?

When writing a LinkedIn summary, keep it basic. In a nutshell, what are you known for? What’s your identity? And how does your work help other people?

  • Step 2: What do you do?

Now take the opening line a bit deeper, but remember the 30-second rule. This is no time to delve into three huge paragraphs on everything you’ve done. Keep it rolling with specific details, like:
Your title and company
BRIEFLY what you do at the job
Again, how your job helps people
Specialties or areas of expertise if you need to describe your role a bit further

  • Step 3: Bring ’em home.

In the final step to writing a LinkedIn summary, put a stamp on it. By now the reader knows who you are and what you do. Now, finish out with a strong “closer” sentence.
Similar to your opening line, what’s your mission as a working professional? What are you passionate about? And how does your passion help other people?
Reiterate that point at the end, add a period and you’re done.

Best of luck !!

Hi,
You have a great answer above with Daniela. I just wanted to offer another perspective, your LinkedIn summary can be used for different things...job search, networking with other people in your field, to connect with other students/professionals if you are still in school or just for your own personal information.
I am attaching another link that has some interesting and very different summaries:
https://www.linkedinsights.com/3-stunningly-good-linkedin-profile-summaries/

Personally I did something a little different on my summary, I had a very good performance review last year and I included some of the statements from my Manager and team to start of my summary. It has been very effective and I actually received 1 job interview offer even though I am not job searching... :)

Good luck! :)

Sarah’s Answer

The summary section is your career snapshot. Think of it as your personal “elevator pitch.” Describe what you do and highlight your strengths. Pro tips: Stick to a few short paragraphs. Lose the jargon. And be your authentic self.

Dr. Kelly’s Answer

Creating a captivating Summary section on LinkedIn is key to leaving a powerful first impression on potential associates and employers. Here are some guidelines to aid you in constructing a striking Summary section:

Start your Summary with a succinct statement that underlines your unique selling point or your career goal. This should catch the reader's eye and pique their interest in you. Enumerate your core skills and expertise that are pertinent to your job or sector. Utilize keywords that recruiters and hiring managers may use when seeking candidates like you. Highlight your achievements and experiences that prove your abilities and success in your field. Use concrete examples and quantify your accomplishments whenever feasible to boost credibility. Utilize your Summary as a platform to narrate your professional journey. Elucidate your career path, including how you arrived at your current position and what drives you in your profession. Discuss what you're passionate about and what fuels your professional growth. Emphasize your values and how they coincide with your work or the companies you're drawn to. Let your personality be evident in your Summary. Avoid using excessively formal language and instead, write in a manner that is true to you. This will help you establish a more personal connection with your audience. Conclude your Summary with a call-to-action, encouraging readers to connect with you, explore opportunities, or visit your website or portfolio for more details. Sprinkle relevant keywords throughout your Summary to boost the chances of your profile showing up in search results.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can craft a captivating Summary section on LinkedIn that effectively presents your skills, experiences, and personality, helping you distinguish yourself to potential employers and associates. Fortunately, once you have a draft, there's an AI feature that assists users in revising the section.

Dr. Kelly recommends the following next steps:

Update Regularly: Keep your Summary up-to-date with any new accomplishments, skills, or experiences to ensure that it accurately reflects your current professional status.
