Melissa’s Answer

Hi - if you are shy, but love to travel, a great way for you to communicate and build experience for your resume would be to start a travel blog where you write about and post pictures of your travels, providing tips and perhaps off the beaten path suggestions. Are you into the environment - you could do a themed blog on eco-tourism. This will give you something to share/talk about (content/followers) in interviews. Although you are shy, you could lean into your outgoing side and reach out to professionals in the travel industry for 1:1 informal informational interviews as well, to learn more about what types of career paths are available to you to explore. Since you describe yourself as both shy and outgoing, something interesting for you to do would be to take the Clifton Strengths Finder, which identifies your top 5 strength areas, and is another wonderful talking point in interviews - many professionals have taken this assessment and you can compare your top 5. I hope that this is helpful!

Melissa recommends the following next steps:

Take the Clifton Strengths Finder
Reach out for informational interviews
Start a travel blog!

Rose’s Answer

Customer service, sales, management, people leader, HR. Each role I have played previously has contributed to the skills, business acumen and knowledge I have now to continue to elevate in my professional career. If you are shy and love to travel, I echo Melissa's response, starting a travel blog or a social media travel page is a great way to start connecting with people. You can share your reviews and pictures of your travel to provide value to your audience. Through those platforms you can start making connections.

Marica’s Answer

Start considering your customer service skills and developing on those. If you're even a bit outgoing, you can find yourself giving some great service to clients and this is a great skill. If you love to travel, my advice is to find something in that field. A travel agency could be a great fit for you. Consider some careers even in event management/planning as well.

Brandon’s Answer

I had the same problem as you of being shy before actually starting to go into the workforce for a bit while going to school. To help with the shy problem try to get a job in some kind of customer service or communications area. Typically those type of jobs help with learning how to interact with others in your surrounding. Volunteering can be a good option as well, as those experiences can sometimes be counted as work experience. Volunteering can be more relaxed in nature and you can interact with more people and network yourself with those that you may not have communicated with otherwise.

Lyndsay’s Answer

I have had so many different jobs. I have tons of experience in customer service including serving in restaurants. That lead me to working at a concert venue where I got to meet amazing people (even a couple rock stars) and was a really cool job. I've also worked as a dog trainer, barista, nanny.... What do you like? Where do you like to go? Get a job there.
