Not to deter, but to obtain a MD or DO will be a definite uphill climb. If C Grades are in high school, then they can be overcome in college. If the C grades are in college it will probably be very difficult to find a medical school to accept you. If you are good at test taking, then you may be able to do really well on the MCAT and balance it out. Your grades in some key classes like Chemistry and Biology may be more important than all your grades. Maybe there is an angle toward MD or DO through nursing or after some time has passed that I am not aware of. I am also not sure of outside of the US Medical school requirements.

Yasemin’s Answer

Hi Jacob! It matters on your GPA and how many C grades you've received. There have been med students who have received Cs and got accepted into medical school, there are a lot of success stories out there. Ideally, you want a strong GPA 3.7+, but if you do score well on the MCAT exam and also do a good amount of community service, shadowing, writing meaningful essays then it will help a lower GPA. There is a holistic process in the medical school apps meaning EVERYTHING is taken into consideration, not just GPA and MCAT. I would advise to seek out a premed adviser and check out Dr.Gray on Youtube, I think you will be able to have a better direction after watching his videos. As a side note he had a video with a med student who did receive a C and was accepted to 9 medical schools I believe, just shows how holistic the process is. Do not feel discouraged especially if this is the first year at college. Many students do not do well in their first year as a freshman in college but then start to do better the following years making up for that gap. I do not know your situation personally therefore at the moment this is the best I can offer, but remember if you put your mind to it, work hard, and show your passion you will get accepted!

I truly hope this helps!
Please let me know if you have anymore questions.

Also based on your location I am unsure if what I am saying applies to medical schools in your location vs. America. Definitely please compare and make sure you know the criteria for being accepted in your country as some countries have different criteria and different examinations!
Best of luck!
