Hi Torianna. The fact that you are insterested in nursing, which is a career that involves dedication and caring for others, says a lot about your personality. I have known nurses who were strong and decisive. They became leaders and held high level positions. I have known nurses who were soft and caring and enjoyed patient care deeply, but who were less interested in managerial positions. I have met nurses who were incredibly organized and detail-oriented, who excelled at document-keeping and worked in administrative areas of hospitals and other institutions. I also know nurses who are not a typical “people person”, but who are interested in science and are curious. They work in research positions in academic hospitals or in the pharmaceutical industry, conducting clinical trials.
Personality tests were for the most part developed decades ago. A lot of research has demonstrated that they do not predict how well a person would do in a job, or how happy they will be. Follow your heart and your interest. There is no single for type of nurse, in the same way that there is not single type of doctor. There are multiple options from surgery, to the emergency room and from hospital administration to clinical research. Don’t let a test or a person tell you what you can or can’t do. Be yourself and follow your passion. There is a place for you in medicine, no matter what personality type you are. I wish you the best!

Hi Torianna; I am glad you are interested in becoming a nurse! It is a wonderful career and one which is very needed, as you have seen for the last two years. I would like to give you some ideas about nursing and personality. 1. First I would like to suggest that you take an assessment that will give you information on careers and personality have used the "Self Directed Search, and MYERBRIGGSfor personality" which will give your answers for the careers that you might
not know about!2. You can also take a personality assessment to find out what your personality is and some of the careers along with what careers and personalities you might have and find out nurse is one of those. There are several different personalities that will show up after you take the assessment and go through your selection of careers and personalities. They will let you know if your personality suggests nursing as a career for you personality ! I suggest you do these assessments at a college career center or wherever you are already in school. If they have a Career Counselor on staff, it would be a good thing to make an appointment with that counselor. The personality assessments is a little different from the career assessment, but they really go together. Some of the characteristics and skills to become a nurse: caring, good education in nursing, make the patient comfortable, ask them how they feel, relate to the patient ,so she will more comfortable with you! The calmer you are the better the patient will feel. I f you do the things I suggested you will find out if you think nursing is the right career for you and compare them to your personality!
try to get the Myers Briggs Personality assessment or find it on-line.
I also suggested Self directed search for career
I also suggest a book titled "do what you want
What color is your Parachute
Bring what you have done and show everything to the counselor so that you can get a grip on what you want to do!

Hi Torianna! While I am not a nurse, I am interested in medicine, and in addition to the great answers here, I think as long as you are patient, caring and love what you do that will show through. Personality is sometimes who we are by birth as well as the environment we grow up so nature vs nurture! However, no one is perfect and as long as you care for nursing and for your future patients that is a strong trait!
I hope this helps, keep working hard and do well in school!
Best of luck!
