How do you get into photography?

It depends on what type of photography you are looking to work in or be viewed in. A lot of people use Instagram or Tumblr to get their work out to the masses but it doesn't necessarily mean you will get work out of it. A great way to get your work seen and reviewed by peers is to join a local photography group or take a class and network with classmates. You can also try to assist local photographers, in my experience after assisting for awhile the photographers I work with will refer me to clients they are unable to work with. If you are looking to go a more fine art route you can submit a gallery packet or a completed show to a gallery to see if they are interested in showing your work (this process might have changed in the past few years as I am less familiar with galleries).

As the previous poster suggested, Social media is a powerful tool to gain exposure from your work. Since there are different types of photography it would help to figure out what type of photography interests you and learn as much as you can.</span>

There are many ways to get started as a photographer. I started with some college level classes on photography, equipment, and editing. This opened a large number of doors to intern with local photographers and by doing so I was able to get my name out there.
