Hi, I am glad to hear that you are interested on IT. IT has a wide range of careers, e.g. Web Developers, App Developers, System Administrator, Database Administrator, Application Support, System Support, Computer Engineers, etc. This is not an exhaust list.
There are different IT related subjects offering in colleges , e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management, Information Engineering, etc. The graduates of different subject can work in one or many careers. However, you may need to acquire further knowledge in order to meet the job requirement. E.g. If you would like to be App Developer, you may take Computer Science as your major in your college. Then, you may need to learn about the programming language, OS interface, etc. to develop the apps.
Suggest you can explore more on what IT jobs you are interested. You can find out what subjects that are relevant to the careers and you can check the colleges' entry criteria of the subjects.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Greg’s Answer

I started in customer support assisting with questions about the products that our customers used. My team and I would work together to help our customers on how to use our products (software or hardware) or troubleshoot and find a solution to an issue they might be having. Providing customer support for a few years gave me comfort and confidence when comminictiing with many different people.

This experience allowed me to explore other opportunities in IT. I went to night school to gain a degree in IT. I then started looking for management roles to support different IT teams, from desktop support to network operations manager supporting our company operations.

Shadowing others in these roles will provide you with a chance to see first hand how they each function. Then you can focus on the areas that interest you.

Good Luck.
