It sounds like you're trying to pick a passion and an income and separating the two. Both are great professions but you can find ways to balance both. Everything is life comes with balance and these two areas are ones that you could balance if you choose to do so. Being a nurse is a fantastic career that gives you options ( three 12 hrs shift per week as an example) and real estate can be very flexible. Just find you balance across your passions! Good luck!

Hi Danah - great to hear you are so hardworking, it really is the key to success!
I think your vision is absolutely possible. Finishing school with a nursing degree and working in the field for several years before becoming a RE agent is very smart. Being a nurse likely means 3 day, 12 hour shifts, which will leave you with a lot of down time. It will also give you location flexibility given nursing is a job you can do anywhere. So if you want to use you free time to get a RE license and start being a broker, it would be a great second profession. Additionally, if you wanted to re-locate to a different RE market, your nursing career wouldn't have to be sacrificed.
Many RE companies offer free license programs, otherwise you can probably do some online research to learn the best path to getting a license and joining a team/opening your own RE business.
I hope this helps and good luck!

Your creative idea of pursing two careers is wonderful. With the many specialty opportunities in nursing you can have a flexible schedule as well as combine the two careers together. The common thought is nurses’ work in the hospital setting. However, apx. 58% of nurses work in a hospital (AACN, 2019). The other areas where nurses work/volunteer is almost endless. For example, nurses work in ambulatory offices, telehealth, school (grammar school), businesses, college/university health centers, travel nursing, quality, legal, politics, other countries, and many more.
Yes, the shifts can include 12 hours – 3 days-4 days per week. Additionally, there are shifts 10 hour of less, per-diem (work according to your interest in the number of days and hours you can work), part-time, or flexible (some day, evening or night shifts).
I have included a website below for more career ideas. And, I included the website to the nursing association in your state. As others read this information, they too can do a search for their state’s nursing association as well as look at the American Nurses Association website.
Additionally, keep your mind open, as you may create a specialty in nursing. For example, what if you take your experience as a nurse and combine with being a real estate agent to help people find homes that meet their healthcare needs or could be renovated to meet their healthcare needs. The healthcare needs could be for an elderly person, a person with different disabilities/abilities, pediatrics (children), or other healthcare needs. I enjoy speaking with adults who have non-nursing degrees then return for a nursing degree and cannot see how the two (2) degree aligns together. You are starting early and have an idea already in your mind and asking questions. Excellent.
Enjoy your career journeys.
