What’s a good college for nursing

#nursing #healthcare #college

Thank you comment icon Hello Breona, A good college of nursing depends on your expectations of a good college such as: location, tuition, culture, program requirements that suit your needs and current education level; however, to obtain more information on nursing program curricula and registration, you may want to consider contacting the college or research it online. Good luck on selecting a nursing school that will suit your educational needs. Sandra Hurst

I went to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX and it has a great nursing program! One criteria that is important to note is that some nursing schools are direct admit which means if you are awarded entry into the school and meet the course requirements, you are guaranteed to graduate with a nursing degree and can complete all 4 years of college at the same university. For instance, TCU is a direct admit nursing program. However, other schools have separate nursing programs that you must apply for after completing your first 2 years of college. At these colleges you are not guaranteed entry into the nursing program, and the nursing school is sometimes located in a different city than the university's main campus. There are a lot of great nursing programs out there, so if you do your research, you are sure to find a great fit for you. Hope this helps!

To become a Registered Nurse (RN), you can complete a program in 2 – 4 years depending on the type of program you would like. There are diploma, Associate’s degree, and Bachelor’s degree programs. There is also an opportunity to enter a combination program where you flow from one degree into another such as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and then right into a Master of Science in Nursing degree. And, there are programs that lead into a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) after achieving a Master of Science in Nursing degree. The Bachelor degree is going to provide you more career opportunities. And, the additional degrees will also provide you even more opportunities.

The best programs can be identified by:
1. Looking for nursing schools that have national accreditation at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing websites (see links below). There are colleges with nursing schools that do not have national nursing accreditation. However, please note, some states require that to obtain a RN license, the student must graduate from an accredited program (in addition to passing the national exam).

2. U.S. News and World Report provide college rankings specifically for undergraduate nursing programs (in addition to other fields of study). You can look at various colleges at the website (see link below).

3. Ask the school what is their NCLEX pass rate. The NCLEX test is the required test to pass as a step towards becoming a nurse. You can also look at states websites where nursing program information can be found.

4. The Official website of Michigan.gov includes nursing programs Michigan Board of Nursing approves with in Michigan and outside of Michigan. I included the website below for you.

5. The best school is also where you feel supported, where you can do your best work and study hard, perhaps you need to look at what scholarships are offered, cost, distance from home, and other degrees offered.

6. Speak with students/search online for students’ comments about the college/university and nursing program.

All the best to you

Hello Breona,

A quick search: Local or close to where you live: Wayne State University and University of Detroit Mercy
Check out this website for more schools in Michigan.: https://www.nursingschools.com/schools/michigan/detroit/
It has Michigan, but every state and their nursing programs across the US. You still will want to request information and really look at the program. Every program does not fit all people. You have to know your own learning style, whether you will need support and if the timeline from start to finish fits what you feel you can complete.
